Midface ratio
The distance from the pupil line down to the mouth, expressed against the distance between the pupils.
Also called midface proportion, midface compactness.
Reference range
None.
We have not validated a population reference interval for this photographic method. Published anatomical measurements do not automatically validate mesh-based estimates.
How we calculate it
We take the midpoint of the two pupil landmarks, measure straight down to the centre of the mouth, and divide by interpupillary distance so the result does not depend on image size.
What moves the number
Camera height and head pitch, strongly. Looking slightly up or down changes this number more than it changes most of the others.
What it cannot tell you
We show this one without a band. It is a real and reproducible measurement of a photograph, but we could not find a published population range for it that we were willing to print, so we do not pretend to have one.
